This GUI program calculates all the required Take OFF flight performance characteristics for Jet-Engine Aircrafts, the performance characteristics (Outputs) includes:
- Total Take Off Distance
- Total Take Off Time
- Ground Run Distance
- Ground Run Time
- Airborne Distance
- Airborne Time
- Lift Off Speed V1
- Stall Speed
- Chart presents all the past characteristics
Required Inputs are:
To run the program you need to insert the following values:
- Obstacle Height (11.5 m as FAR standard, 15 m as UK standard)
- Reference Area
- Airplane Weight
- Engine Thrust
- Zero-Lift Drag Coefficient CDo
- K: constant of CL^2 in the drag polar equation (CD = CDO + K*CL^2)
- Maximum Lift Coefficient
- Friction Coefficient [0.02 – 0.05]
The code based on Pamadi and Saarlas equations of performance of jet engine aircraft in cruise flight.
Example you can try with this program:
A jet-engine airplane weighs 40 KN and has a reference area S of 29 m2. The drag polar is given by CD = 0.009 + 0.06CL^2, CLmax = 2.05, and the engine thrust T = 20,900 N, friction Coefficient 0.05. Use obstacle height of 15 m.
- L: Lift
- D: Drag
- CD0: Zero-Lift Drag Coefficient
- K: Weight of CL^2 in Drag Polar (CD = CD0 + K*CL^2)
- CL: Lift Coefficient
- V1: Lift off Speed (1.2 Vstall)
- Vstall: the Flight Velocity calculated with respect to CLmax
- Mu: Friction Coefficient between the ground and airplane wheels.
The Program has one interface where you need to inter 8 requirements of the studied airplane and you will get 8 results, there are a chart you can present it by clicking on the button ‘Show Chart’ this chart explains the parameters you are going to find.
- If some results are negatives then there are an error in your inputs. The program has been tested on various ranges of airplanes characteristics and the results were accepted and logical.
